So you want to write for Hyperallergic. Great — we want you to write for us too. We publish hundreds of freelance contributors and are always looking for new writers, especially those who come from marginalized communities.

Please visit for details on what we're looking for and how to pitch us.

We publish reviews, articles, interviews, essays, and reported news pieces related to visual art. We define our focus broadly and encourage writing that considers visual culture beyond its traditional or expected contexts. For essays and reviews especially, we're interested in your voice, subjectivity, and critical perspective.

Please familiarize yourself with what we've published prior to submitting your pitch.

Fill out the following form in full. Incomplete forms will not be reviewed. All submissions are reviewed carefully by our Editorial team, but due to the high volume of submissions received, we’re unable to reply to every inquiry.

Please keep your submission as concise as possible.

Thank you for your interest in submitting poems to Hyperallergic! Please review the guidelines here before submitting:

We are open to all styles and forms of poetry, but the best way to get a sense of what we publish is to read the published poems on the website. Send your best work!

Please submit 3–5 poems as a single PDF, Doc, or Docx file.

Include a brief biographical note with your submission (welcome but not required).

Due to our volume of submissions, please wait a minimum of three months before querying the status of your submission. We endeavor to respond to submissions much sooner, but if three months have passed you are welcome to follow up by emailing

Please note: Submissions sent via email will not be read; please use the email address only for queries, questions, or other general correspondence (emailed submissions sent before the switch over to Submittable on 3/22/18 are still under consideration and will continue to be read in the order they were received).

We are a paying venue for poetry, and we are open for submissions year-round.

We publish poems twice a month. Read our recent poems at
